Schleich Head

My son has been bugging me for some Schleich zoo figurines.  The company website directed us to two Vancouver retailers.  Thus it came to be that we found ourselves Saturday morning at the Splash Toy Shop on Dunbar Street.  I was quite impressed with the size of the place—room enough to swing a cat—not bad at all for an independent in the age of Toys R Us’es, but they didn’t have the Schleichs we wanted. The Toy Box on West Broadway fared no better, so the kids wound up with a bag of miniature plastic fruit instead.

I dropped by the main Lens & Shutter store to buy a 58mm centre-pinch lens cap (out of stock!) and, were it not for the fact that Betty and I have just purchased a house, almost considered buying the sale-priced Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

We had lunch at the Banana Leaf and shared the tastiest Rendang dish I’ve ever had.  It was dang good!

I spent the rest of the afternoon at VanDusen Garden taking pictures under a light rain. Suffice it to say, the pictures are a pale imitation of experiencing the real thing. The Garden is finally waking up from its five-month slumber.
